Monsters Don’t Exist

For this project, made for a bookbinding class, I wrote and illustrated a short story about the existence of monsters in order to think about the juxtaposition between something being called horrible while also being called non-existent. I alternated between light grey and black paper, putting the story’s text on the light grey paper where it would stand out well, and putting the colorful illustrations on the black paper where they would communicate better. The illustrations fill the spreads they are on to draw in the viewer while the text is small, giving it a more personal feeling.
